Rosemann I purchased this air conditioner because of my prior satisfaction with the Friedrich brand. I have been running two large Friedrich units in my house in Dallas, Texas, for several years without any complaints. I also liked the fact that Friedrich still manufactured its air conditioners in San Antonio. Note the past tense: when I checked the website recently, I learned that a few years ago, Friedrich closed its San Antonio factory and moved its production to Monterrey. I was not pleased when I received the CP05N10A. First of all, the box said in big letters, "Made in China." So, if Friedrich does manufacture air conditioners in Monterrey, mine was not one of them. I try not to buy goods made in China, because I do not want to use my money to support an oppressive dictatorship where factory workers (and citizens generally) have no rights. Furthermore, a recent trip to the Home Depot revealed that my "Friedrich" air conditioner from China is in fact identical with other brands (such as LG) that sell for less. Amusingly, the unit has a Friedrich sticker at the back that peels off very easily. As for the quality of the unit, I can say that it has been working well and fairly quiety for the past couple of weeks. Of course, you should not expect real quality: the fan, for example, is made of plastic, and the condensers at the back have no protective grating, so that they damage easily. The unit rattles a little at medium fan speed, though that can be stopped by pushing firmly on the front. Bottom line: I am disappointed. Another traditional brand has moved its productions outside the US, whose manufacturing base is becoming thinner and thinner. Of course, we, the so-called consumers, are to blame as well: if we want everything to be cheap, we are depriving our own country of well-paying jobs and, often at least, will end up with low-quality goods that fail too quickly. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Dissatisfied By M.L.B.I.M. This is my second comment. After I installed it, I turned it on, and we thought, it is wonderful, cool and quiet. Then it went to high speed, and the noise appeared. Something like the compressor needing oil, or perhaps it is robbing against something. I don't know. I'm sure it doesn't need oil. So we're trying to keep it on economy-low, but when it switches to high by itself the noise reoccurs. As far as cooling our bedroom, that it does. We hope it will last a while.
