Davis I could find no reviews of this machine on the web before I bought it so I will be the first to enlighten you...this is a great deal! I need three of these for my lake house with through the wall A/C and propane heat, but I was wary of the low price - maybe the unit is cheaply made? - so I ordered one at first, plus the factory sleeve (don't scrimp, buy the sleeve). The A/C fits well in the sleeve and it has insulation to keep the sun off your unit and to muffle the noise. The controls are straightforward and the remote is easy to use. No thermometer on the remote, but it is just fine. The unit puts out a lot of air. It replaced a '70 model 8K BTU unit and it blows much more air. The high cfms will help evenly distribute both the cold air and the heated air. The unit isn't quiet, but it isn't that loud unless you have the fan on high. The only noise is the sound of rushing air, so in that respect it is very quiet mechanically. My wall was already prepped for a 24" sleeve, so installation only took about an hour. The inside look is that of a motel A/C unit - it even has a little plastic trim ring for around the unit. Outside there is a shiny chrome grill that attaches to the sleeve. These are Energy Star rated and the Seer (or Eer) is 9.4 which is right up towards the top of the chart which ends at 10 according to the label that came with it. These units will pay for themselves in 8 months based solely on the electricity saved compared to the '70's models I replaced. But the big win for me is the HEAT! Now with a couple of E-Heat's Envi convection heaters adding several thousand Btu's of heat to the house I don't have to use propane for anything besides cooking which will save quite a bit of money. The heaters in this A/C are equal to two portable space heaters but space heaters don't move nearly as much air as this unit does and I expect the heating bills will be less than or equal to the cooling bills. Overall I am very satisfied with these units. They are made by Gree who is the largest A/C manufacturer in China, so they are pretty high quality. I bought three of them, so I must like them pretty well. Edit: After a month of using these ACs in 110 degree temps I can tell you they work great. Even on the hottest days they run for a while and shut off. My only complaint is that the registers don't tilt downward farther, but the idea is that cold air sinks so it blows high in the room to prevent heat layering and mixes the room's air very well. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Soleus through the wall AC & Heat By Marvin Y. I needed a through the wall unit for my office. It's about 270 sq. feet of space with 8'ceiling. This unit fit just perfect in the existing spot that the old one was in. It looks great and I hope it lasts as long as the old one (8years).
